JOB HUNTING WORKSHOP

Arguably the most important part about GBS is the Job Hunting Workshop. This is a 3 hour long workshop taught by Nino that breaks down the industry to a science teaches you how to get a job over people with experience, your biggest challenge. Only decades of industry experience in SD can provide such a valuable workshop.

A very detailed resume lecture is followed up by students sending their re-formatted resumes for critique and feedback. This workshop is meant to show you everything you need to know to land a job with no help. Some pay just for the workshop. Carefully crafted with decades of bartending and bar managing experience, you simply will not find anything more helpful to fully prepare you for the competitive field of bartending.  Yes, I am currently working as a bartender in Coronado, at a Mexican restaurant called Candelas on the bay, VYBZ and El Chingon in Gaslamp. After finishing the GBS course I started looking for a job and I got my first interview in 2 weeks.

“Excellent invest as i was working and making fists full of cash 4 days after graduating!

I chose GBS for a lot of different reasons but the main reason was because of who would be teaching the class. When you go online to sign you immediately see that the class will be taught by one of the best bartenders in San Diego, so immediately I’m sold. There’s nothing else that needs to be said when you come across something like that, Nino is the best at what he does so why not learn from the best to become just like them. Another reason I chose GBS is because the class would be held in an actual nightclub (Bassmnt) so you get the feel of how it would actually be as if you had just started working.

Overall, GBS would get a 11/10 rating from me!  

" I have been bartending for over a year now, and I’m still currently bartending at my first job Bassmnt nightclub, which i got from GBS within a week of graduating. Im also working at Volcano Rabit in Gaslamp as the Bar Manager and at Sunburn Pool Party at Hard Rock Hotel. 
While I was taking GBS, I appreciated that the instructors alot. GBS always made the students aware of job opportunities thru GBS. I did the live service training which was huge and helped me land the job at Bassmnt (since the live service training is at Bassmnt). GBS teaches you the basics of bartending, pouring and the recipes for key cocktails. The program sets you up for success and if you utilize it, you’ll get a job!
The skills I learned at GBS helped me feel really comfortable behind the bar (mainly because the school is taught behind a real bar). Getting tested on the recipes really helps you memorize the ingredients and pour tests help you with accuracy so you can land the job at an interview. The mock service helps you get the real life feel of how to interact with guests as a bartender as you make the drinks and use the POS. The distractions of the atmosphere in a nightclub/bar make the experience authentic.  The opportunity to guest bartend through the school is also one of the best tools they provide for their students, i got to bartend at Sidebar Nightclub and made more money then i spent on the class!
 I chose GBS because after doing the research, it hit all of the points I was looking for in a bartending school. After the first day of class, it really exceeded my expectations. The price is worth it because not only are the tools they provide you necessary for your success, but even if you dont work their events you’ll make the money you paid for the program back within your first couple shifts as a bartender. 1. Are you currently working as bartender and how long did it take to get your first job?

Yes, I’m currently a bartender/ bar manager at Saigon on Fifth and recently landed a bartender position at SOHO Gastropub near Kearny Mesa. I applied for 3 bartender positions (Saigon on Fifth in Hillcrest, Campland Raised Cantina (a job interview provided by GBS) in PB, and a Star Bar in downtown) right after I finished the bartending school and was hired within 3 days of graduating. All required at least a year experience but i still got all 3 jobs in less than a week. I had to quit 2 of them to go full time as a bartender/ bar manager at Saigon on Fifth.

2. How did GBS help you land your first Job?

GBS taught me the everything I needed to know to begin bartending and feel comfortable behind a bar. I loved the program because Nino and Eric taught me speed and efficiency and gave me the necessary feedback to become successful. But what you get out of the program is based on how hard you work and study. Overall, The program was very organized and really fun, I looked forward to going to class everyday. The last part of the program was a mock service and a resume building/ job hunting workshop which was great. I also did the live service training at Bassmnt  and that experience was really fun and helped tremendously because it allowed me to get a real feel for how it is to be a bartender for a high volume establishment.

3. Did the skills you learn at GBS help you be successful as bartender?

All the skills I learned at GBS made me successful as a bartender immediately because it gave me all the skills I needed to know to begin bartending and find my own style as a bartender. I was able to apply everything I learned from speed and efficiency to the recipes to my jobs as a bartender.

 " Yes I am working as a bartender. I’ve actually been a bartender for the past 6 months! I started bartending school a couple weeks before Christmas 2017 and got my bartending gig in Feb 2018 and I’m still currently working at the same bar!
